- The Project was awarded by the Mining and Energy Planning Unit (UPME by its Spanish acronym) to EEB by presenting the best offer.
Bogotá D.C., 17 October 2014. The Mining and Energy Planning Unit - UPME awarded on Thursday to EEB, head of Grupo Energía de Bogotá, the project UPME-06-2014 Substation Río Córdoba, which includes the selection of an investor to design, procure of supplies, construct, operate and maintain the substation Rio Cordoba 220 kV in the surrounded area of the Municipality of Cienaga, Magdalena, and its associated transmission lines. At the public bidding, besides EEB, Interconexión Eléctrica S.A. E.S.P – ISA presented its offer as a proposer. EEB's proposal was selected after offering the lowest present value of the annual income expected during the next 25 years, corresponding to an amount of USD 14.7 million.
The purpose of the project under the Expansion Transmission Reference Plan 2013, is to improve the operational constraints in the Caribbean area in the short term as exhaustion of the network capacity is presented, due to growing demand connected to the area, potentially leading, low voltage, overload and neglecting growing demand.
Ricardo Roa Barragan, CEO of Grupo Energía de Bogotá, celebrated the award of the project and stated that“it ratifies EEB’s leadership in the development and expansion of the National Transmission System providing reliability, particularly the inhabitants of the departments of Guajira, Cesar and Magdalena”.This is the seventh UPME project that has been awarded to EEB in the last three years, confirming the company's leadership in the development of energy infrastructure.
